Supplemental and Emergency Funding

Generous contributions from alumni, parents and friends of the College allow us to offer supplemental financial support to students. These funds do not need to be repaid, but the College hopes that one day, when a beneficiary of this support is able to pay this forward, they will.

Requests are reviewed on a weekly basis during the academic year. Students will be contacted via campus email with a decision or a request for more information. Funding or reimbursement will be sent by direct deposit within two weeks of process completion. For emergencies, students should contact their dean.

Generally, the funding will not cover the entire cost of an event or emergency, is not a replacement for financial aid, and is intended for incidental and unexpected expenses of modest amounts. Requesting and/or receiving supplemental or emergency funds will not affect a student’s annual financial aid award.

Expenses Not Covered by the Supplemental and Emergency Fund

  • Tuition, fees, or study abroad costs
  • Computer purchases or apple pencil replacements
  • Rent, personal bills (utility, credit card, cable, or cell phone), parking tickets, library fines, or preventable expenses.
  • Transportation to/from school, work or an internship

Some Examples of Past Assistance

  • Travel1 for an emergency or for job/internship interviews
  • Urgent medical or dental expenses not covered by insurance, including eyeglass replacement, contact lenses or hearing aids.
  • Supplies and course materials (see footnote)2
  • Test prep materials (GREs, LSAT, MCAT)
  • Courses while on academic suspension
  • Winter coat and boots (up to $350) for first-year and transfer students

For domestic students from New England and New York, travel home is considered part of a student’s financial aid budget. The amount added to the student’s budget is estimated to cover three round trips during the academic year. Our funds are for aided students who have emergency travel needs beyond the allowance already included in their financial aid award. International students should confer with Dean Hussey regarding emergency travel.

2 The student aid office includes $420 per semester for textbooks, supplies, and course materials in each student’s cost of attendance, and these are considered the student’s responsibility. Requests for textbooks and supplies will be considered when the total semester materials bill exceeds $420.
